Off the Beaten Path – Melton Mowbray Have Won An Award
They listen, They care, They smile.
Recently winning the Good Food Award, again, for 2020, Off the Beaten Path are the ones to beat! In fact, they have won the award for the last two years running.
To win it again, their customer feedback was evaluated by the judges who saw a consistent report of ’exceptional levels of food quality, service and value when compared to our industry benchmarks in their category.’ Well done team OTBP!
Who they are
They’re a small award-winning coffee house based in the Rural Capital of Food and Drink; Melton Mowbray. As their name suggests, they are off the beaten path, tucked away at one end of the main market area. That doesn’t, however, mean that they’re difficult to find, in fact, they have been a staple part of the Melton café scene for over 20 years and are well known amongst the locals.
Currently owned and run by Wayne the Barista Sharpe & Lynne the Baker Sharpe, they believe that…
“Everyone, every day needs a little pick-me-up, whether it’s coffee & a cake with friends, lunch with mum, milkshake after school, a cuppa on the go, or just space to dream.”
And that they are there to be that pick-me-up!
The AMAZING food
Their stylish, double-fronted façade stands out with their large windows inviting you in, with a fresh, no-fuss, comfortable interior. Once inside, you’re greeted with the sight of mouth-watering cakes and the smell of freshly ground coffee.
They offer a huge variety of homemade, freshly prepared food options such as filled jacket potatoes, soups, sharing platters and hot & cold sandwiches. All the cakes are freshly baked on-site too, including a lemon meringue pie to die for! They source all of their produce from local artisan producers such as Long Clawson Dairy, Dickinson & Morris & of course, Two Chimps Coffee.
The Coffee
Off the Beaten Path joined our troop of chimps back in October 2018 and have been a loyal customer ever since. They started by serving our freshly roasted coffee as their Guest Coffee only, but as time has progressed, they now serve solely Two Chimps, yay!
They came to Two Chimps HQ and created their own custom blend of coffee, aptly named ‘The Beaten Blend’ which is still served as their house coffee today. As a Two Chimps wholesale customer, this is all part of the service.
Blended by Wayne and Lynne with help from some of their most loyal customers, they created a coffee with a smooth toffee biscuit sweetness and an underlying punch of dark fruit. This coffee is sweet, full-bodied and moreish, which tastes great with or without milk. Best of all, it’s a one of a kind blend, only served at Off The Beaten Path.
It’s down to the speciality coffee beans sourced from Colombia and Honduras that make up their unique blend and give their coffee its interesting flavour. They also serve a guest coffee from us, which changes regularly as well as our chemical-free decaffeinated coffee.
Working together
Like us, they are serious about coffee and also passionate about sourcing fresh, local produce, which is why we’re a match made in heaven. We ethically source our beans, and we only roast single-origin speciality coffee. Coffee tastes best when it’s fresh, which is why we only sell the freshest coffee.
We roast to order, which means we are only roasting what we need. This guarantees that every order we deliver to all of our customers is as fresh as possible. For example, we’ll contact Wayne on a Monday to see how they’re getting on and what coffee they need. Then, we’ll roast it on a Tuesday or Wednesday and then we hand-deliver it to them for free on a Thursday. You can’t get fresher than that!
They are passionate about serving the best coffee, consistently and with a smile. A perfect reason to get off the beaten path and pay them a visit!
