Looking for a brew that packs a punch? Let’s break down our ‘strongest’ specialty coffee!

When discussing ‘strength’ in coffee, it can refer to two different aspects: the roast level and the caffeine content. Today, we will explore what we believe the term means and introduce our ‘strongest’ coffee available at Two Chimps. Let’s go!

Orange and Blue Labelled Coffees

How would we describe our ‘strongest’ brews?

We define “strength” as the roast style of our coffee instead of its caffeine content. This approach is often used by other coffee brands as well. They usually indicate the roast style on their packaging using small filled dots along the side. However, at Two Chimps, we show the strength of our brews using our very own chimpometer.

You can find all about this below, but it’s basically just a little system we’ve created to show you guys the roast style of our coffees. The more chimp heads filled in, the darker the coffee is!

So, if you follow this guideline, you’ll find that we offer two medium/dark brews, which we would class as our “strongest” specialty coffees. So, without further ado, let’s meet our orange and blue labelled coffees!

Calmer than a Banana – Orange Labelled Coffee

We have to start with our bestselling coffee, Calmer than a Banana! This orange-labelled coffee is a smooth, chocolatey brew with a fruity hint of prunes and a subtle nuttiness. It’s perfect served with or without milk, which is why it has become a crowd favourite!

We sourced this exceptional coffee from the San Salvador Volcano region in El Salvador, where the Aguilar family has been growing coffee for six generations. The farm benefits from nutrient-rich volcanic soil, and the volcano’s slopes protect the crops from too much sun exposure.

They currently have 160 hectares of coffee-growing land, which varies in altitude across the volcano. Our orange-labelled coffee is grown at the highest point, allowing the cherries to ripen slowly and infuse the beans with incredible flavours.

The Kipper is out of the Bag – Blue Labelled Coffee

If you’re looking for a coffee that packs a serious punch to kickstart your day, this blue-labelled coffee is the perfect choice. We call it our morning brew because it has a fruity zing that is sure to wake you up. Starting with a classic chocolate base, you’ll also discover notes of sweet plums, brown sugar, and a hint of zesty orange. Drool!

This coffee was grown in Colombia, one of the most renowned coffee-growing regions in the world. What sets this brew apart is its exceptional quality and the fact that it has been cultivated by an all-female workforce led by Ana Gloria Rodriguez. This group was formed to protect their ancestral lands and empower women in the coffee industry. High five!

Will these coffees be here forever?

If you’ve been a TCC fanatic for a while, you know that the origins and names of our brews change roughly every six months. This is because we only source single-origin coffees, and once a harvest is finished, those beans are all gone. Now we hear what you are thinking: Why don’t you return to the same farm and get some beans from their latest harvest?

Well, factors like rainfall, climate, and different fertilisers all influence the taste of the coffee. This means that even if we returned to that farm, it might not taste the same. So, we source an equally (sometimes even better) brew! However, we ALWAYS stick to the same roast style for our standard range, meaning that our orange and blue labelled coffees will always be medium/dark.

Andy Cross

Meet the chimp behind this article!
Head Chimp founded Two Chimps alongside Laura in 2016 after being self-employed from the age of 21. He caught the coffee bug from using an at-home roaster, and the rest is history!

What Andy does outside of the treehouse:
When the weather’s nice, Andy loves going on bike rides with his trusty sidekick, microchimp Felix (who always leads the way, of course). Andy also enjoys spending time tending to the family’s vegetable garden, and looking after their at-home farmyard, which includes a cat, two guinea pigs, and six chickens!

Andy says…
“I believe every day is a school day, and I’m always looking for opportunities to stick my head in a book and absorb new knowledge. I also love a problem to solve and fix – there’s no such thing as problems, only solutions.”
