The first step to latte art is having the correctly texturised milk. We will start by showing you how to successfully steam your milk to create a glossy, microfoam texture at the correct temperature. This will include the positioning of the steam wand, your posture and measuring the temperature by touch.
Next, we will talk about the pour. Maintaining, adjusting and controlling the flow of milk are essential steps to achieve the right canvas for your latte art in your cup. We will work through your posture, how to hold the jug, positioning of the cup and controlling the flow.
After mastering the pour, we’ll teach you to wiggle. Yes, that’s right, to wiggle. Wiggling introduces movement into the combination of the milk and crema to enhance your pattern.
The latte art pattern that we will teach is ‘The Heart’. This is the simplest of the latte art designs, but great for beginners and is a foundation design for all latte artists.
The rest of the session will be yours to practice and perfect your latte art heart. The on-site baristas will be on hand to help and guide you along the way.
There is no experience required to participate in this beginner’s course. The grinder and functions on the espresso machine will be set and ready to use. The focus of this course is on the milk and latte art techniques.
