Fancy a spot of breakfast? How about a smart lunch? Or maybe a prosecco-accompanied afternoon tea? Find them all at The Dining Room Restaurant and Tearoom.
Alongside delicious food and irresistible sweet treats, this lovely eatery is now serving Two Chimps Coffee! We already supply The Dining Room’s sister restaurant with freshly roasted coffee, so couldn’t be more pleased to welcome them to the troop!
A lovely restaurant in Northampton
Rachael and Dave took over at The Dining Room in 2009, and it quickly became a firm favourite in Northamptonshire. Their light-filled restaurant is perfectly situated in Northampton’s Cultural Quarter, inside The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House. Something of a local landmark, 78 Derngate is the only English house designed by architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It is now home to stylish art galleries, a shop and event spaces, plus The Dining Room restaurant.
The pair share duties between them to create a smooth dining experience. Daniel takes the role of head chef and has a particular passion for creating new delights for the afternoon tea menu. Rachael, meanwhile, oversees management and front of house duties. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?
What’s on the menu?
Breakfast is a meal worth doing well, especially when you’re heading out for brunch with the family. Take a trip to The Dining Room to find a small but perfectly executed range of breakfast dishes. Enjoy eggs your way (with crispy bacon? served on toast?) or smashed avo, rocket and crispy onions on sourdough bread. Sophisticated but still homely – it’s just what you want from a good brunch.
After brunch comes… lunch! Dave and the team freshly prepare soups and salads, plus heartier options such as pumpkin ravioli and home-cooked ham and chips. The sandwich menu has enough choice to keep everyone happy. Will you go for a classic fish finger or BLT, or the summery beetroot, feta and mint sandwich? Oooh, and will you add a bowl of twice-cooked chunky chips?
Afternoon tea in Northamptonshire
Afternoon tea at The Dining Room is always a treat. Freshly prepared and baked with love, it’s perfect for catch-ups with friends or larger celebrations with all the family. The traditional afternoon tea features a selection of savouries plus generously filled sandwiches. Fluffy scones and clotted cream come next (what else?), followed by sponges, tarts and pastries. Of course, you can adapt your tiered treats to suit specific dietary requirements, too.
Upgrade your afternoon tea with a glass of Pimm’s, or add prosecco for a truly special treat. With prices starting from just £16.95 per person, it’s easy to see why The Dining Room is such a popular afternoon tea destination (you’ll need to book!).
Great food deserves great coffee – nothing less!
Each afternoon tea option features unlimited tea or coffee. And trust us, you won’t want to resist a refill once you’ve tasted The Dining Room’s luscious Guatemalan coffee. Rachael and Dave selected Pull Up a Chair to serve in the restaurant. This lovely single-origin coffee dazzles with its full body and sweet, toffee-ish flavours. There’s a little fruitiness, too, reminding you of grape and zesty orange. The perfect partner to brunch, lunch, cake and great company!
Decaf drinkers don’t need to miss out: the team also selected The Waving Goldfish for caffeine-free customers. We deliver it to the restaurant freshly ground for their espresso machine, ensuring decaf fans can enjoy great coffee every time!

Meet the chimp behind this article!
Head Chimp founded Two Chimps alongside Laura in 2016 after being self-employed from the age of 21. He caught the coffee bug from using an at-home roaster, and the rest is history!
What Andy does outside of the treehouse:
When the weather’s nice, Andy loves going on bike rides with his trusty sidekick, microchimp Felix (who always leads the way, of course). Andy also enjoys spending time tending to the family’s vegetable garden, and looking after their at-home farmyard, which includes a cat, two guinea pigs, and six chickens!
Andy says…
“I believe every day is a school day, and I’m always looking for opportunities to stick my head in a book and absorb new knowledge. I also love a problem to solve and fix – there’s no such thing as problems, only solutions.”
